Guide to Santorini, Greece and the Islands

Santorini has no doubt become one of the most popular, photogenic islands part of the Greek Isles. It can definitely be more of a pricey trip but today I bring you tips and tricks on how to make your vacation worthwhile with everlasting memories. I bring to you the best hotels, restaurants, and things to-do in the area.

Where do I stay in Santorini?
Santorini is also known for its breathtaking hotels with amazing views and rooms, here are just a number of places in different parts of Santorini.

1. Astarte Suites
This is where I personally stayed when travelling to Santorini and I was happily surprised. This family owned and operated business has 13 large suites equipped with a private terrace along with a breathtaking view, large beds and well decorated furniture, and a hot tub in each room. The pool area is amazing and the restaurant serves great lunch options.

2. Grace Santorini
This hotel has a very clean, put-together and classical white theme to everything. The pool area is stunning with an infinity pool that overlooks the Greek islands. The bar and restaurant area are spacious and show to be very welcoming. There are also state of the art spa and gym facilities and the staff are very kind.

3. Mystique, a Luxury Collection
This hotel brings European hospitality to another level, the rooms are very similar in style to that of Grace but with a more homey, warm feel. The location is in a very building-populated part of Oia which makes for great Instagram photos. Their very selective and precise menu cater to everyone's taste-buds and ensure happiness.

Best Beaches In Santorini?
Everywhere in Santorini is beautiful but now I bring to you some of the best beaches; some for relaxation, some for picture taking, and some for adventure.

1. The Red Beach
The red beach is one of the most famous and beautiful beaches in Santorini. Located in the subdivision of Akrotiri (same as Astarte Suites) this beach is surrounded by ancient history and ruins.

2. Perivolos- Black Sand Beach
With a very chill and relaxed atmosphere, this beach brings tranquility and a sense of escapism. The black sand is an interesting yet beautiful sight for the eyes and the local food found around the beach is a great touch for the hungry sun-bather.

3. Agios Georgios
This beach can be much more populated at times and does not have an interesting colour sand but it does have some of the best restaurants and tavernas steps away from the water. This beach has a massive span and is great for a day at the beach with a large family or groups of friends.

Food Options?
There are obviously a number of amazing restaurants in each area of Santorini and the hotels each listed above have amazing menus that are sure to excite but if you are on the road; on the way to the beach and you need a quick fix the roadside tavernas are surprisingly wonderful. Usually, family owned and operated the tavernas offer a number of lunch and baked good options and to-die-for ice cream and gelato. Most of the time, these small placed are overlooked and not frequented but 9 times out of 10 they pass on a wonderfully yummy experience.

Any underrated restaurant and experience spots?
Yes! Yes! and Yes! In fact, the area of Amoudi Bay is perfect for dining and shopping. Amoudi Bay is a open water bay surrounded by a number of restaurants and docks. This was honestly one of my personal favourite parts of Greece. Renting or taking a boat ride can get you to any restaurant on the bay you please and for the more adventurous, island hopping is readily available. Once you have filled up on dinner and desert in the bay, sit on the docks on in a boat and watch the sun set. Amazing restaurants I recommend on the bay are "Sunset" and "Dmitri's". This place is definitely one you should visit and explore in, it is not as touristy as expected and it promises great memories.
Oh and P.S. there is also a great amount of cliff jumping and diving opportunities right alongside the bay for the more adventurous type!

Any Shopping Options?
The shopping in Greece overall is limited to small, locally operated boutiques but that is what I personally love about the island shopping experience. In Santorini, there is a lovely downtown shopping area in Fira filled with small tavernas, boutiques, bakeries and restaurants. I have bought numerous clothing and other items in the Fira town square and I have been completely impressed with the selection and quality of clothes they have to offer. The boutiques offer clothing and shoes, home goods, decorations, and local skin and beauty products. This is a great place to grab a bite to eat and walk off the calories later by shopping! I also came across a wonderful little underground bookstore in this area that is picture-perfect and even gives you the chance to rent out the stores kittens for a hour! If anyone comes across the name let me know! I have been searching!

Best time of the year to travel?
Although it may be incredibly hot, believe it or not, the best time of the year to travel to Santorini are the summer months of July and August. This is because the fresh produce is ripe and in season and there are less crowds and more relaxation this time around. June is particularly perfect for these reasons as well.
